Fresh air does its magic – in the Białowieża Forest, appetite doubles. Where to eat tasty, local, and hearty meals after a whole day of sightseeing? Here is our culinary guide to the best places in Białowieża and the surrounding area.

Many tourists, typing "hotel Białowieża" into a search engine, expect their entire culinary journey to take place in a hotel restaurant. That’s a mistake! When in this region, it’s worth stepping outside the accommodation walls to find soulful flavors. Where to eat in Białowieża to savor the true taste of Podlasie? Here is our subjective guide to places worth visiting.

Where to eat in Białowieża? – the culinary showcase

In the very heart of tourist Białowieża, there are several places that have permanently become part of the region's gastronomic landscape. Nearly all visitors head here.

1. Carska Restaurant – a journey through time
This place is a legend. It’s located in a historic building of the old railway station, built for Tsar Nicholas II. The interiors are steeped in history, and the atmosphere is unique. It’s a high-end choice – perfect for a romantic dinner or celebrating a special occasion. The menu features game meat, blinis with caviar, and exquisite dishes of Russian-Polish cuisine.

2. Stoczek 1929 Restaurant – the taste of tradition
Situated almost opposite the entrance to the Palace Park. Stoczek is a place that emphasizes regionality at its best. If you want to try pelmeni, vareniki, or classic Podlasie potato babka in a cozy wooden interior – this is the right address. It can get busy in the season, which only confirms the quality of the dishes served.

3. Fanaberia Restaurant – for dessert
Life is not just about lunch. After a meal, it’s worth visiting Fanaberia for coffee and cake. Here you can try the famous Marcinek – a multilayered cake spread with cream, which is the sweet signature of the region (often asked about by guests of our resort).

Or maybe an escape from the crowds? Direction: Enklawa

Peak season in Białowieża has its own rules – queues for tables and a buzz are standard, which not everyone seeks after a day spent in the forest. Sometimes it’s worth driving just a few minutes by car to find peace, space and... a menu that surprises.
For those who appreciate freedom, the SportiVino Restaurant in Enklawa Białowieska is an ideal alternative. We are not a typical hotel restaurant. What sets our cuisine apart?

If you’re looking for authentic regional flavors, you don’t have to look further. Our menu is dominated by the best the forest has to offer, e.g. handmade dumplings filled with game meat, spinach, and a hint of red wine. There is also Babka Podlaska, the classic with bacon, onion, and chanterelles, served with sour cream.

And if you fancy a break from regional cuisine? Our chefs serve pizza that could compete with Neapolitan classics. We use original ingredients: San Marzano DOP tomatoes and fior di latte mozzarella.

We also have something for the little ones: besides classic broth or veal meatballs, our ace up the sleeve – homemade Nutella pizza. Guaranteed smiles from the kids.

It’s an excellent base for lunch on the way back from exploring Hajnówka or Białowieża. An extra plus? Large, free parking. Finding a spot in the center of Białowieża can be challenging, but with us, you park comfortably right by the restaurant.

What must you try in Podlasie? A brief guide

Regardless of which restaurant you choose, make sure local delicacies end up on your plate. Podlasie tastes like:

  • Babka and potato sausage: an absolute staple of the local cuisine. Filling, aromatic, often served with mushroom sauce.
  • Kartacze (cepeliny): large potato dumplings stuffed with meat.
  • Solianka: thick, sour soup with plenty of cold cuts and pickled cucumbers – a legacy of Eastern cuisine.
  • Game meat: dumplings with wild boar or venison goulash are flavors you cannot miss in the forest.

Full? Time to rest.

Good food is half the success of a great trip. The other half is comfortable sleep. If you value space, quiet, and closeness to nature, check out Enklawa Białowieska's offer. We are a great alternative to cramped hotel rooms in the town center. See our apartments and plan a culinary and leisure weekend in Podlasie.

Where to eat in Białowieża? – FAQ

Below we have gathered answers to the questions we most often hear at Enklawa's reception from our guests.

1. Is a reservation necessary in Białowieża restaurants?
During peak season (May holidays, summer, long weekends) – definitely yes. The most popular venues are often crowded. If you're looking for something "right now" without a reservation, it’s worth checking places a bit away from the main promenade, e.g., the restaurant in our resort in Hajnówka.

2. Do hotels in Białowieża have restaurants open to outside guests?
Most do. Searching Google for "hotel Białowieża restaurant" will give you many options. However, remember that during breakfast and dinner times, hotel guests have priority, and service may be heavily burdened. Independent restaurants or those in resort-type facilities (like Enklawa) are often better prepared to serve "walk-in" guests in the afternoons.

3. What to eat if I don’t like game meat or potato-based cuisine?
No worries! Podlasie cuisine is evolving. In good regional restaurants, you can easily find vegetarian dishes, light salads, or European classics (pizza, pasta).
